I’m currently working on a new piece to be entitled “Take it Slow”. Lately I’ve been running around and spreading myself so thin I feel I might break! Committing to things I’m not passionate about and spending my time taking care of other people’s problems. Lately I’ve felt like I’ve been losing myself and my sense of who I really am.
So I’ve decided to put a hold on this ludicrous. Your life belongs to you and you alone! It’s up to you to spend your energy in places that make you happy. I’m writing a song to help my listeners remember not to get lost in the shuffle. Always keep in check with yourself, “How are you doing today? Really. Are you working for yourself? Or for something that you don’t care about?” In a world set on an ever running treadmill, take the time to take it slow, and enjoy the journey.
We are luckily enough to live in a free country where we have the freedom to dictate where our energy and time will be spent. Don’t forget that. Today, and everyday, fulfill your responsibilities, then spend the rest of your time on yourself and/or those you love.
There’s a chapter in Dan Ariely’s book Predictably Irrational that talks about our need to keep all the doors open and how ironically we limit our options by doing so. Spreading yourself so thin to keep every possible option open (whether you’d seriously like to pursue it or not) is actually unproductive and unhealthy. Spend your time and energy doing what you love, what you’re passionate about and achieving your goals. Let the things that don’t really matter just…go…
Sorry world, this is my one, and only life. My health and happiness comes first!
