Today I played a short set at Kevy Nova’s Guitar-a-thon 2013. Guitar-a-thon is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society where Kevin North (Kevy Nova) performs guitar and sings for 24 straight hours! Today he raised $6,000 for the ACS.
The last song Kevy played of his 24 hour set was a song written by our friend Auri Naggar, whom we lost to cancer in 2011. As much as I miss my friend, I really felt his presence when Kevy sang his song. It made me realize, a musician can never really die, they live on through their songs. Songs are such personal creations. I really think a piece of our souls goes into the music we make. And when we pass, people can still remember us and feel our presence through our music.
Thank you Kevy for all you’ve done to raise money for the ACS. For honoring your father, grandmother and Auri. I know they were listening today. See you next year!
