Your contribution will prepay for copy of the new cd. Heather will also send you a special weekly newsletter showing the progress of the record and how your contribution has helped!

Heather will be performing a series of concerts on the Peninsula to raise money for the cause. All proceeds will go to production costs for her new cd.

Balance Between Movement and Stillness

Hello all!

I have been reading an amazing book called “The Heart of the Buddha’s Teachings” by Thich Nhat Hanh and I would like to share somethings I’ve learned and come to realize in my readings.

There is a peace that exists within all of us. Some are more in tune with it than others, but it is still there. We all come from the same force; energy. It’s the fuel that makes us move, breathe, feel and think. Energy is what separates us from the dead. Death is when energy leaves our bodies and transforms into the atmosphere to find a new home. Energy can be vibrant like a playful child, or still like a lily in the pond.

Nature has its natural cycle of energy. With birth in the spring, vibrance and movement in the summer, relaxation in the fall, and stillness in winter. Nature lives inside of us all, whether we ignore it or not.

Happiness can only exist where there is a balance between movement and stillness. The world turns, pulling us into momentum. Sometimes we feel the need to run ahead of the turning of the world, with our problems constantly chasing us. One of the hardest, yet simplest lessons we must learn, is to practice stillness. To move with the turning of the earth without resistance. Not to worry about progress, but for a moment, to observe, be still and accept things as they are.

There is a wisdom within each of us. When we are still we can hear our own voice that will guide us, and tell us where to go.

So move when it’s time to move, be still when it’s time to be still, practice balance and you will find happiness.

Heather Scarlett

Music Publishing Reference Every Musician Should Check Out!

Hello friends and fellow musicians,

I’m currently reading this excellent book that I think every musician out there should pick up. It’s called  ”The Plain and Simple Guide to Music Publishing” by Randall D. Wixen. It’s easy, straight forward, and gives you the basic knowledge every musician needs to know about music publishing and royalties so you don’t get RIPPED OFF!

Even the introduction was super informative!

Most of all, Wixen and I stand on the same ground on the subject of music these days being extremely underpriced (even expected to be free!) and undervalued.

If you don’t know your rights as a songwriter, check out this book! Get paid for your work!

Heather Scarlett

Play with something to say, not something to prove

I saw this on the projector at the Blues Jam at Club Fox in Redwood City last night. I couldn’t agree more with this statement. So many musicians define their self-worth by their “status” amongst the music community. Not only is this a hollow way to live, but it’s not what music is about. Music is about sharing a story, through lyrics and melody. Great art is not driven by ego, but by a story that needs to be told.

Thank you for hearing my stories. I hope you find something in them to lighten your lives.

More stories to come!

Peace and Love,
Heather Scarlett
